SHR AUTOSENSOR · TECHNICAL NOTES
Exhaust particulate matter sensors
On selected diesel aftertreatment systems, a PM sensor monitors particulate emissions downstream of the filter. The sensor, control unit and ECU strategy form an application-specific system.
Bosch describes its particulate-matter sensor as a resistive sensor installed downstream of the diesel particulate filter. The sensing element is regenerated by heating between measurement phases; its control unit communicates with the engine ECU. That system description does not mean every diesel vehicle uses a PM sensor.
Check the complete system
- Confirm the vehicle actually has a PM sensor in its aftertreatment layout.
- Record the OE number, VIN, engine, market and emissions version.
- Check the sensor control unit, connector, harness, exhaust mounting and software/calibration requirements.
- Use vehicle-specific diagnostic instructions before replacing a sensor or initiating a regeneration.
Availability and exact fitment must be confirmed against the target OE application before an offer is made.
